endMS Education and Training Committee Terms of Reference
Function: The Education and Training Committee (ETC) is the primary governance body for the National Training Program (NTP) with a mandate to monitor progress, set policies and provide advice to the program leadership, on strategies to sustain the program. Membership: Chair plus a minimum of 4 additional members as identified below under Composition. Composition: The Education and Training Committee is chaired by the program director or a co-director. Other members include the Program co-directors, Chair of the Peer Review Committee, Chair of the SPRINT Committee, a Host representative from the upcoming endMS Summer School to act as liaison, a member at large from amongst the MS researcher community, a person with lived experience in MS, and an alumnae trainee member. Members at large are chosen nationwide from a cross section of disciplines in the MS community. -Summer School Hosts will serve a one-year term; all other members will serve a two-year term, and may be invited by the Chair to serve subsequent terms. -Ideally, the committee should include representation from different geographic regions of Canada and diversity of age/sex/gender/ethnicity/training/life experience Duties and Responsibilities: -To oversee new program development, guidelines and procedures -To monitor and assess existing programs -To initiate and guide program evaluations -To facilitate discussions about program priorities for the Training Program, and -To maintain the confidentiality of discussions regarding the Training Program. Expectations: -Experience with multiple sclerosis either as a researcher, knowledge user, trainee, or person living with MS -Commitment to building research capacity in Canada through training opportunities -Living in Canada -Commitment to comply with the duty of confidentiality related to the committee discussion and documents -Availability, capacity, and motivation to commit the requested time (virtual meetings), Most meetings are up to one hour and are held between the hours of 11 am and 4 pm eastern time to accommodate participants across the country. (2 years with potential renewal) Assets but not required -Previous involvement with MS Canada and/or the Training Program -Previous involvement in educational programs -Previous involvement in an organization’s governance -Ability to communicate in French Meeting frequency: zoom/video conferences every 4-6 weeks (as needed) lasting up to 1 hour. Reporting: Meetings will be minuted and circulated to all Education and Training Committee members. Highlights of achievements of the program will be included in the annual reports to MS Canada. endMS SPRINT Committee Terms of Reference
Function: The SPRINT Committee (SC) assists in the identification and recruitment of mentors, supports mentors, SPRINTers and community partners and reviews feedback from past and current SPRINTers. Membership: Chair plus a minimum of 3 additional members as described below under Composition. Composition: the committee will include a minimum of four members (including the Chair) one of which must be the program director or co-director, one a person with lived experience in MS, one a SPRINT alumni trainee and one member at large from amongst the MS researcher community. The Chair will also sit on the Education and Training Committee. The Chair will be appointed by the program director and the Chair in collaboration with the PD, will identify additional members. ●members will serve a two-year term and may agree to serve additional terms if requested by the PD. ●Ideally, the committee should include representation from different geographic regions of Canada and diversity of age/sex/gender/ethnicity/training/life experience Duties and Responsibilities: 1. identify and invite researchers to serve as mentors. 2. provide training and advice to mentors and community partners; 3. review and match mentor- SPRINTer interdisciplinary project teams; 4. review feedback from past/current SPRINTers; Expectations: -Experience with multiple sclerosis either as a researcher, trainee, or person living with MS -Commitment to building research capacity in Canada through training opportunities -Living in Canada -Commitment to comply with the duty of confidentiality related to the committee discussion and documents -Availability, capacity, and motivation to commit the requested time (virtual meetings), Most meetings are up to one hour and are held between the hours of 11 am and 4 pm eastern time to accommodate participants across the country.
